A Boston judge found ICE agent Brian Sullivan in contempt for arresting Wilson Martell-Lebron during his trial, violating his right to due process.
Martell-Lebron, accused of using a false identity on a driver’s license application, was detained outside the courthouse, halting the trial.
Judge Mark Summerville dismissed the charge and condemned the arrest, calling it a serious breach of constitutional rights. Martell-Lebron’s lawyer criticized ICE for acting without identifying themselves.
The arrest has sparked concern over ICE operations in Boston, a sanctuary city. Sullivan said Martell-Lebron, a Dominican national, is now detained.
The court learned state police and prosecutors knew of ICE’s plan. The judge’s ruling could prompt a review by the Suffolk County District Attorney. ICE’s courthouse presence remains controversial.
