The European Union announced it is ready to negotiate with President Donald Trump just days after he imposed sweeping tariffs on E.U. exports.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed openness to a zero-tariff deal on industrial goods, warning that the tariffs harm U.S. consumers and businesses. Despite planning countermeasures, E.U. officials acknowledged their weak bargaining position, with 70% of their exports facing tariffs of 20–25% or more. Meanwhile, Mexico has declined to retaliate, and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu is set to discuss trade with Trump at the White House.
