New York Attorney General Letitia James announced plans to sue the Department of Health and Human Services, accusing the Trump administration of threatening critical aid programs like Head Start and Meals on Wheels.
Speaking at a National Action Network rally, James vowed to lead a coalition of Democratic attorneys general in filing the lawsuit.
She also criticized HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for prioritizing measles treatments over vaccination efforts and mocked his past medical issues, referencing a worm-related health claim he made in a 2012 deposition.
Meanwhile, James faces legal scrutiny herself. The Trump administration has referred her for possible federal prosecution over alleged mortgage fraud related to a 2023 property purchase in Virginia. Federal officials allege she misrepresented her residence and property details to secure more favorable loan terms.
Additional allegations include falsified records tied to a Brooklyn property and past mortgage applications co-signed with her father, who was incorrectly identified as her husband.
