A former State Department budget analyst, Levita Almuete Ferrer, 64, pleaded guilty to embezzling over $650,000 from the agency between 2022 and 2024.
Ferrer wrote 63 fraudulent checks, depositing them into her own accounts and covering her tracks using QuickBooks. She faces up to 10 years in prison and has agreed to repay the stolen funds.
Separately, a U.S. Diplomatic Security Service agent assigned to Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s detail was arrested in Brussels for erratic behavior and fighting police. The agent was later released, and the incident is under investigation. Sources cite overwork and high stress as contributing factors.
