Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove delivered a stern rebuke Thursday to U.S. Attorney Danielle Sassoon, who resigned rather than drop the case against New York Mayor Eric Adams.
In an eight-page letter, Bove criticized Sassoon’s handling of the case, saying the DOJ would “not tolerate the insubordination” she displayed.
Bove argued that Sassoon’s actions were inconsistent with the policies of a democratically elected president and a Senate-confirmed Attorney General. Sassoon resigned, citing concerns over the rushed decision to dismiss the Adams indictment, which she felt lacked her input and was done in collaboration with Adams’ counsel.
Bove addressed issues with the prosecution under Sassoon’s predecessor, questioning the timing of charges and suggesting the case obstructed Adams’ ability to enforce immigration laws.
