Capitol Police Arrest Man Threatening Trump Cabinet Member

Ryan Michael English, 24, of South Deerfield, Massachusetts, was indicted for attempting to assassinate a Cabinet member and carrying a dangerous weapon on Capitol grounds.

On January 27, 2025, he approached a U.S. Capitol Police officer and turned himself in, admitting to carrying a knife and two homemade Molotov cocktails. The devices, made from vodka bottles with cloth wicks, were found in his jacket.

English claimed he intended to harm Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and had traveled to D.C. to kill a government official or destroy a think tank. A note found on him referenced a desire to act against perceived injustices.

He remains in custody, and the case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Brendan M. Horan. The investigation is ongoing.
