Trump Administration Probes Newsom Over Aid to Illegal Immigrants
The Trump administration has launched a federal investigation into California Governor Gavin Newsom’s government over potential misuse of state funds for illegal immigrants.
The Department of Homeland Security, through ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations in Los Angeles, issued a subpoena targeting the Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants (CAPI). Officials seek records from 2021 onward to determine if illegal aliens improperly received state and federal benefits.
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem stated the administration will crack down on abuses and warned more subpoenas may follow. The probe could expand beyond Los Angeles County.
Newsom, a vocal supporter of immigrant rights, has not yet commented. The investigation highlights growing federal pressure on California’s immigration-related programs.
