Efforts to resolve the Ukraine war may reach a turning point in Istanbul, where Presidents Zelensky, Putin, and Trump could meet Thursday for direct talks.
It would mark the first face-to-face meeting between Kyiv and Moscow since Russia’s 2022 invasion.
Trump, currently visiting the Middle East, said he might join if progress toward peace is likely. The Kremlin confirmed it will send a delegation but hasn’t said if Putin will attend.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio is expected to represent the U.S. Zelensky insists he’ll only meet Putin, not other Russian officials.
He emphasized the need for a ceasefire and international mediation, warning that Ukraine’s survival is at risk if the war continues for years without resolution.
