House lawmakers voted to censure Rep. Al Green (D-TX) after his removal from President Trump’s joint address to Congress.
Green was escorted out for shouting, “You have no mandate!” during Trump’s speech. The censure passed with ten Democrats joining Republicans in support, while Green voted “present.”
The action was prompted by Green’s outburst, which House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) criticized as part of a larger Democratic dysfunction. Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) introduced the resolution, arguing that Green’s behavior violated House decorum.
Green stood by his actions, claiming it was a matter of conscience regarding healthcare. Despite Democratic opposition to the resolution, it was passed, and Speaker Mike Johnson urged more Democrats to join Republicans in the censure vote.
