BREAKING: DOJ To Charge Dem Rep For Alleged Assault Against ICE Agent

Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) is expected to face assault charges after an altercation with ICE agents outside Delaney Hall detention center in Newark, according to the New Jersey Globe.

The incident occurred on May 9, when McIver, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, and other Democratic lawmakers attempted to inspect the facility.

McIver allegedly placed her hands on ICE officers during a scuffle, while Baraka was arrested for refusing to leave. Republicans accused McIver of “body slamming” an officer, which her colleagues deny.

Gov. Phil Murphy defended the lawmakers’ right to oversight, while federal officials say the group escalated the situation.
