Reps. Judy Chu (D-Calif.) and Gwen Moore (D-Wisc.) confronted House Speaker Mike Johnson over Elon Musk’s team gaining access to a Treasury Department payment system.
The intrusion occurred after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent met with Johnson about President Trump’s tax agenda. Chu and Moore accused Musk’s team of stealing Americans’ private tax information.
Musk’s team has “read-only” access to the system, which handles trillions in government payments. The incident was condemned by a witness who described the confrontation as aggressive, though Chu’s spokesperson denied the claim, stating she joined a civil meeting.
Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed questions about Musk’s security clearance and his role as a special government employee, admitting uncertainty about his background check status.
