Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) has asked FBI Director Kash Patel to investigate former FBI Director James Comey after Comey posted a photo on Instagram showing seashells arranged to read “86 47.”
The post was widely interpreted as a threat against former President Donald Trump, referencing the slang term “86,” which can imply elimination or assassination.
Comey deleted the post and claimed he was unaware of the violent connotation, saying he opposes violence. However, the Secret Service has questioned him, and Homeland Security confirmed an investigation is underway.
Cotton’s letter criticizes Comey for past bias against Trump and demands a review of all FBI actions he was involved in. Trump also condemned the post, calling it a clear call for assassination. Sources say Comey may face subpoenas or charges if he doesn’t cooperate with Congress.
