Rep. Al Green (D-TX) has been officially censured for his outburst during President Donald Trump’s congressional address.
The censure vote passed 224-198 on Thursday, following Green’s removal from the House chamber after shouting and shaking his cane at Trump.
In protest, a group of Democrats gathered on the House floor, singing and causing a disruption. Speaker Mike Johnson called a recess to restore order.
Green defended his actions, stating he stood up for those in need of Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security. His censure marks the third time a Democratic congressman has been penalized since Speaker Mike Johnson took office.
This follows previous censures of Reps. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MN).
