Trump Pressures GOP to Back His “One Big, Beautiful Bill”
President Donald Trump warned House Republicans to support his sweeping tax and spending bill, urging unity and telling lawmakers to follow Speaker Mike Johnson’s lead, according to multiple sources.
In a closed-door meeting, Trump bluntly told Republicans, “Don’t f— around with Medicaid,” signaling resistance to deep cuts, despite the bill’s proposed restructuring of the program.
The legislation includes major tax cuts, including eliminating taxes on tips and overtime. Trump has threatened political consequences for GOP holdouts, singling out Rep. Thomas Massie as a “grandstander” who should be voted out.
While promoting the bill as a win for working Americans, Trump also warned against pushing too hard on limiting the SALT deduction and claimed the GOP is more unified than ever. However, the bill faces opposition from both fiscal conservatives and moderates over Medicaid changes and deficit concerns.
