Disney CEO Bob Iger and ABC News president Almin Karamehmedovic have urged the hosts of the left-leaning daytime talk show The View to reduce their political commentary, especially their frequent critiques of President Donald Trump. This has caused tension behind the scenes, as the outspoken panel is known for tackling political topics head-on.
Executive producer Brian Teta reportedly told staff to “go easy” on Trump commentary before the Jan. 20 inauguration, following a November episode that required multiple legal disclaimers when discussing accusations against Trump’s cabinet nominees.
While ABC executives regularly discuss viewer feedback with talent, the network wants a more balanced show without singling out Trump. Karamehmedovic recently met with the hosts and pushed for a wider, less political agenda, emphasizing celebrity and lifestyle content, which reportedly did not sit well with the panel.
Hosts, especially Ana Navarro, resisted, arguing their audience expects strong political analysis amid the current climate. Despite pressure, the hosts continue their usual political focus.
These internal tensions come amid broader pressures on Disney from Trump and his allies, including a $16 million settlement over a mischaracterized ABC interview and ongoing lawsuits against other media companies. Recent disputes have already led to high-profile retirements in CBS News leadership.
