Alabama Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville announced he will leave the Senate to run for governor of Alabama.
Speaking on Fox News, Tuberville highlighted his background as an Auburn football coach and his commitment to growing Alabama by bringing manufacturing, stopping illegal immigration, and improving education.
Endorsed by former President Donald Trump, Tuberville is poised to succeed term-limited Governor Kay Ivey. Lieutenant Governor Will Ainsworth’s decision not to run makes Tuberville the likely next governor of the deeply red state.
Meanwhile, Tuberville plans to continue working in the Senate, including supporting Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” despite concerns from some Republicans about parts of the legislation.
