The Supreme Court has declined to hear a case involving Liam Morrison, a Massachusetts middle school student who sued his school for banning shirts reading “There are only two genders.”
School officials argued the shirts made transgender students feel unsafe and sent Morrison home when he refused to change. A lower court sided with the school, ruling the shirts disrupted learning and were demeaning.
Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito dissented, saying the Court should have heard the case. Morrison claimed he was simply expressing his opinion, not hate.
The case gained attention as President Trump signed an executive order recognizing only two genders.
