A teenage illegal immigrant from Colombia who killed Kaitlyn Weaver, 24, in a high-speed crash in Aurora, Colorado, was sentenced to probation and community service.
The lenient punishment sparked widespread outrage and renewed debate over the treatment of non-citizens in the justice system.
On May 20, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested the teen and his entire family, who are also in the United States illegally. White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller confirmed that deportation proceedings have been initiated for the whole family.
The case reflects the Trump administration’s broader crackdown on illegal immigration, emphasizing stricter enforcement and the removal of undocumented individuals who have committed crimes.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Supreme Court allowed the administration to revoke temporary legal status for hundreds of thousands of migrants. This decision supports President Trump’s efforts to expand deportations and limit programs such as humanitarian parole and Temporary Protected Status (TPS).
