Kentucky State Senator Robin Webb has switched from the Democratic Party to the GOP, citing the Democratic Party’s shift to the left and policies she says harm her coal-region constituents.
“I didn’t leave the party — the party left me,” Webb said.
Her move is seen as a blow to Democratic Governor Andy Beshear, a rising national figure and potential 2028 presidential candidate.
Republican leaders praised Webb’s decision, while Kentucky Democrats criticized her, claiming she now supports harmful GOP policies.
Webb’s switch reflects growing conservative momentum in the state, where Donald Trump won over 64% of the vote in 2024, despite Beshear’s re-election in 2023 with a five-point margin.
