Police Agencies In 40 States Agree To Help Homan, ICE With Deportations

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has expanded its 287(g) program, with law enforcement agencies in 40 states now assisting in immigration enforcement.

The program allows local and state officers to perform federal immigration duties under ICE supervision.

As of this week, 635 agreements have been signed, including jail, task force, and warrant service models. Florida leads with full participation from all 67 county sheriffs and several state agencies. Universities and airport police departments in Florida are also involved.

The expansion follows comments from former ICE Director Tom Homan, suggesting that sanctuary city officials could face consequences for allegedly harboring undocumented immigrants. ICE has 68 more applications pending.
