GOP-Led J6 Investigation To Be Its Own Committee This Congress

Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) announced that House Speaker Mike Johnson promised to formalize a new committee to continue investigating the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack.

This committee will revisit the findings of the former Democrat-led select committee, which Loudermilk criticized as overly focused on blaming Donald Trump.

The GOP aims to expand investigations launched in the last Congress, now controlling both chambers and the White House. Johnson pledged the new committee would be fully funded.

Loudermilk’s previous work suggested former Rep. Liz Cheney should face FBI scrutiny. The move keeps focus on alternative narratives around January 6 and alleged government failures.
