Republicans pushed back against Elon Musk’s criticism of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, claiming his opposition stems from the removal of green tax credits that benefit Tesla.
Musk called the bill a “pork-filled Congressional spending bill” and accused lawmakers of wrongdoing.
However, Republicans argue Musk has a financial motive, as the legislation eliminates EV tax credits, including $7,500 for new EVs, $4,000 for used ones, and $1,000 for home chargers. It also introduces a $250 annual EV registration fee and phases out $11.4 billion in Tesla’s regulatory credits by 2025.
Tesla reportedly spent $240,000 lobbying for these incentives, further complicating Musk’s public stance.
