President Donald Trump urged Russia and Ukraine to negotiate a settlement “before it is too late,” announcing he is considering implementing banking sanctions and tariffs on Russia.
He stated on his Truth Social platform that, given Russia’s ongoing military actions in Ukraine, he is strongly considering large-scale sanctions until a ceasefire and peace agreement are reached.
Trump’s call for peace follows an overnight Russian attack on Ukraine that injured at least 18 people. Though it’s unclear what sanctions Trump might impose, 21,000 sanctions have already been placed on Russia since its invasion of Ukraine.
Trump’s focus is on peace, with military aid to Ukraine currently paused for review, though the UK government remains committed to securing lasting peace.
