Hours after deploying over 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles amid protests against recent ICE raids, President Donald Trump promised strong repercussions for demonstrators who spit on police officers. Speaking to reporters alongside Secretary of State Marco Rubio before boarding Air Force One, Trump condemned the protestors’ violent behavior and warned that law enforcement would respond forcefully. When asked if he would invoke the Insurrection Act to address the unrest, Trump replied it depended on whether an insurrection occurred but acknowledged the presence of violent individuals. He reiterated his commitment to law and order, dismissing suggestions that the protests were not real riots. Trump praised Breitbart News during the press exchange and emphasized that strong measures would be taken to restore order. Regarding his upcoming meeting at Camp David, Trump mentioned plans to meet with military officials and other key figures to discuss major national issues, noting the enhanced security of the location.
On the question of sending additional troops, Trump said forces would be deployed “everywhere” to prevent the country from descending into chaos, comparing the situation unfavorably to the previous administration’s handling. He stated the threshold for deploying marines and troops would be based on perceived threats to citizens and national security. Addressing concerns about protests spreading to other cities, Trump warned that law enforcement would closely monitor developments. Highlighting a new tactic among some protesters—spitting at officers—he issued a stern warning: “They spit, we hit,” stressing that such behavior against police or military personnel would be met with severe consequences. Trump also affirmed that officials obstructing law enforcement efforts, including deportations, would face federal charges.
