President Donald Trump issued a press release expressing sympathy after a deadly shooting in Minnesota that targeted Democratic lawmakers. Before the shooter, 57-year-old Vance Boelter, was publicly identified, Trump shared his remarks via White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. “I have been briefed on the terrible shooting that took place in Minnesota, which appears to be a targeted attack against State Lawmakers. Our Attorney General, Pam Bondi, and the FBI are investigating the situation, and they will be prosecuting anyone involved to the fullest extent of the law,” he said. Trump added, “Such horrific violence will not be tolerated in the United States of America. God Bless the great people of Minnesota, a truly great place!”
Boelter is now the subject of a manhunt after allegedly impersonating a police officer and murdering Minnesota House Democrat Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband. He also shot State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, who both survived. Boelter was reportedly affiliated with a private security firm and used “police-type” vehicles to aid his deception. Investigators discovered a hit list in his vehicle, naming Democratic officials and figures tied to Planned Parenthood. Anti-Trump protest materials were also found, suggesting potential political motivations. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz labeled the incident a “politically motivated assassination.” Former NFL player Jack Brewer condemned the attack and blamed state leadership, calling Minnesota “the capital of chaos.” He emphasized the need to restore traditional values, pointing to what he sees as weak leadership and rising political extremism in the state.
