A news report featuring an emotional interview with Minnesota House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman has gone viral following her tragic murder. In the video, Hortman expresses deep remorse after voting against funding healthcare for illegal immigrants in a contentious budget deal. The report surfaced just one day after Hortman and her husband, Mark, were fatally shot at their Brooklyn Park home. In a related incident, State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were also shot multiple times in Champlin but survived.
Authorities have identified 57-year-old Vance Luther Boelter as the suspect. Boelter, who has a background in private security and international work, allegedly impersonated a police officer during the attacks and fled on foot after a shootout with police, leaving behind a fake police SUV. Police found a manifesto in his vehicle naming multiple lawmakers, including Hortman and Hoffman, as targets. The manifesto also referenced “No Kings” flyers connected to upcoming protests against President Trump’s policies, prompting state officials to discourage public attendance at these events due to safety concerns. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz condemned the shootings as politically motivated violence, and the State Emergency Operations Center has been activated to aid the ongoing manhunt for Boelter.
