President Donald Trump suggested to reporters on that he and they could be in danger amid rising tensions over potential U.S. military action against an Iranian nuclear facility. Earlier that week, Trump said he was giving Iran’s leaders a few weeks to come to terms with the U.S. and Israel regarding Iran’s nuclear program, which Tehran claims is peaceful.
Israel has been attacking Iranian nuclear and military sites, along with targeting senior military figures and nuclear scientists. After landing in New Jersey, Trump addressed reporters during a Q&A, warning that journalists might be “in danger” by simply talking to him.
When asked if he feared Iran’s proxies might retaliate with terror attacks abroad, Trump replied, “We’re always concerned about that, and we have to take them out and be very strong. You’re even in danger talking to me right now… But you guys are actually in danger.”
On other topics, Trump reiterated his position that NATO countries should spend 5% of their GDP on defense, criticizing countries like Spain and Canada for low contributions, saying the U.S. has been unfairly bearing most of the cost.
When questioned about reports that Lindsey Graham and Mike Pompeo were encouraging Ukrainians to continue fighting despite peace talks, Trump warned people to “be careful with their mouth” because it “can get them into a lot of trouble.”
Last week, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo warned that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has been active worldwide, including in the U.S., planting terror cells, alongside Hezbollah.
Despite the rising international tensions, Trump maintains favorable approval ratings. A recent Napolitan News Survey showed 53% approval among registered voters, up from 51%, with the economy and immigration as voters’ top concerns, while war and international issues ranked lower.
When asked about Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s refusal to halt nuclear activities, Trump simply said, “I say good luck,” signaling a tough stance amid the escalating standoff.
