Johnson Calls Trump’s BBB ‘Most Conservative Legislation We’ve Ever Worked On’

House Speaker Mike Johnson has called President Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” the “most conservative legislation we’ve ever worked on,” praising it as the centerpiece of the Republican agenda heading into the 2024 election.

In an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News, Johnson emphasized the bill’s conservative framework, highlighting provisions like historic tax cuts, work requirements for Medicaid, and massive reductions in government spending. “Eighty-five to ninety percent of this bill is House-generated,” Johnson said, adding that Senate modifications made parts of the bill even more conservative.

Johnson said Republicans are aiming to pass the bill by July 4. “We got a clear mandate from the people in November. President Trump ran on a clear set of priorities and promises, and this is the vehicle to deliver it,” he stated.

Calling the legislation a product of 14 months of work, Johnson claimed it would save taxpayers $1.6 trillion. “We’re going to cut down the size and scope of government, make it more efficient, make it work better for the people,” he said.

A key provision in the bill would reintroduce work requirements for Medicaid recipients. “If you’re a young, able-bodied man, you should be helping to pull the wagon, not riding it,” Johnson said, pointing to a popular requirement mandating at least 20 hours of work, job search, or volunteering to maintain benefits.

Johnson also touted the bill’s economic impact, echoing Trump’s promises from his first term. “After the first two years of the Trump administration, we brought about the greatest economy in the history of the world. We’re going to do that again—with this bill, on steroids.”

He said the average American could expect an additional $10,000 in take-home pay, thanks to tax exemptions on overtime and tips, as well as new tax credits for seniors and Social Security recipients.

“There’s something in this bill for everyone,” Johnson concluded. “It’s great policy, it will help the economy, help the American people, and fulfill the promises of the America First agenda.”
