President Donald Trump announced that his administration is working closely with state and local officials in Texas following catastrophic flooding that has killed at least 80 people and left many more missing. He confirmed that Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem is traveling to the area to coordinate federal assistance.
In a Truth Social post, Trump stated, “Melania and I are praying for all of the families impacted by this horrible tragedy. Our brave first responders are on site doing what they do best. GOD BLESS THE FAMILIES, AND GOD BLESS TEXAS.” Melania Trump also expressed condolences on X, sending prayers to the families affected.
Trump said he expects to visit Texas on Friday to avoid interfering with rescue efforts. “We wanted to leave a little time. I would have done it today, but we’d just be in their way,” he told reporters.
Among the heroes of the disaster is U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Scott Ruskan, 26, who rescued over 165 people in Central Texas, including children stranded at Camp Mystic. Homeland Security Secretary Noem praised Ruskan as “an American hero,” highlighting his role as the only triage coordinator during his first rescue mission.
The Kerr County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that 68 people have died in that county alone, including 28 children. Ten campers and one counselor from Camp Mystic remain missing. Search and rescue operations continue with the support of hundreds of emergency personnel and specialized units.
