On Tuesday, CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten stated that President Donald Trump is “more beloved” by Republican voters than any GOP president in recent decades. According to Enten’s aggregated polling data, Trump currently holds a 63% approval rating among Republican voters just five months into his second term—outpacing all other Republican presidents dating back to Ronald Reagan.
“It’s history-making,” Enten said, highlighting the comparative figures. “George H.W. Bush had 46%, George W. Bush had 59%, and Trump in his first term had 53%. But now, 63%. He even beats Reagan, who enjoyed a major boost in popularity after surviving an assassination attempt in 1981.”
Enten emphasized that Trump’s popularity is unmatched in modern Republican history. “He is more beloved by this Republican base than any other GOP president has been five months in. It is historic,” he stated. Trump’s consistently strong support reflects not just loyalty to his persona but also satisfaction with his administration’s performance thus far.
Much of that support is tied to Trump delivering on major 2024 campaign promises. On immigration, his administration has conducted mass deportations and reported record-low illegal border entries. In May 2025, the U.S. reported zero illegal crossings, with migrant encounters down 99%, “gotaways” down 95%, and ICE conducting over 100,000 arrests since Trump returned to office.
Trump has also overseen a sharp decline in inflation. The Consumer Price Index rose just 2.3% from April 2024 to April 2025, the lowest in four years. His proposed “big, beautiful bill” seeks to eliminate taxes on tips and overtime. Additionally, over 95% of Trump-endorsed candidates have won their GOP primaries, reinforcing his grip on the party.
