A newly released CIA report has reignited controversy over the Trump-Russia investigation, confirming suspicions that former CIA Director John Brennan and others may have deliberately worked to frame Donald Trump during the 2016 election. Fox News legal analyst Gregg Jarrett supported current CIA Director John Ratcliffe’s findings, stating the operation was politically driven and centered around the discredited Steele dossier.
The dossier, compiled by ex-British spy Christopher Steele, was funded by Hillary Clinton’s campaign via Fusion GPS. According to Jarrett, it contained unverified claims that the FBI had already debunked before Trump took office. Despite this, then-FBI Director James Comey and Brennan used the document in intelligence briefings, concealing its flaws.
Jarrett argues that Brennan sidelined experienced CIA analysts who questioned the Trump-Russia narrative, and even blocked other intelligence agencies from participating. A deputy CIA director warned that including the Steele dossier would damage the credibility of the intelligence report, but Brennan allegedly ignored it to push his political agenda.
In 2023, Special Counsel John Durham concluded there was no connection between Trump’s campaign and Russia. Now, Brennan faces a criminal investigation for allegedly lying to Congress about the dossier’s role. Clapper and Comey, who also dismissed the dossier’s significance in sworn testimony, may be investigated as well.
Despite their actions, Brennan, Clapper, and Comey have faced no prosecution. Jarrett warns this lack of accountability sets a dangerous precedent: “Unless those who unscrupulously weaponized their immense power… are held to account, it will happen again.”
