President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly planning to dismiss all individuals involved in special counsel Jack Smith’s criminal cases against him, including career attorneys, during his early days in office.
Sources close to Trump’s transition team shared that these dismissals, which are unusual during administrative transitions, will extend to individuals within the Biden-Harris Justice Department. Trump also intends to form investigative teams within the DOJ to probe alleged fraud in the 2020 election, particularly in key battleground states.
Trump’s press secretary-designate, Karoline Leavitt, emphasized that the president would fulfill his campaign promise to remove bureaucrats who “weaponize” the justice system. Meanwhile, Trump’s pick for U.S. Attorney General, Pam Bondi, follows former Rep. Matt Gaetz’s withdrawal from the nomination after controversy.
