Republicans on Capitol Hill, pressured by MAGA-aligned factions seeking greater transparency in the Jeffrey Epstein investigation, voted Wednesday to subpoena former President Bill Clinton and former first lady Hillary Clinton for questioning.
Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA), a member of the House Oversight Committee, introduced a motion requesting subpoenas for the Clintons. He said the goal is to uncover what they knew about Epstein, his abuse of underage girls, and whether he possessed a “client list” of powerful individuals involved in Epstein’s crimes.
During the committee hearing, Perry read out a list of individuals to subpoena, which included the Clintons, former FBI directors James Comey and Robert Mueller, and former Attorneys General Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder, William Barr, Jeff Sessions, Merrick Garland, and Alberto Gonzales. He urged committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) to approve the motion.
The motion passed by voice vote. When asked by Fox News about issuing the subpoenas, Comer’s spokesman said they “will be issued in the near future.”
The controversy has led to unusual bipartisan interest. Earlier the same day, Rep. Summer Lee (D-PA), a member of the progressive “Squad,” filed a motion demanding the release of any undisclosed files related to the Epstein investigation, highlighting a rare moment of alignment between conservatives and progressives on the issue.
