Trump to Starmer on Immigration: ‘You Cannot Let People Come in Here Illegally’

Trump Meets UK’s Starmer, Urges Tougher Immigration Measures and Shortens Putin Deadline

Former U.S. President Donald Trump met UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday at his Turnberry golf resort in Scotland, just a day after securing a trade agreement with the European Union. The meeting, set against the scenic backdrop of the Scottish coast, quickly turned political as Trump addressed reporters and urged Starmer to adopt tougher measures on illegal immigration, calling it a major threat to national security.

“If the boats are loaded up with bad people—and they usually are—you have to stop them,” Trump told the press. He commended Starmer for recent efforts by the UK government, highlighting the return of 35,000 migrants during the first year of Labour leadership. Starmer confirmed the figure and mentioned a new agreement aimed at speeding up deportations of individuals without legal residency rights.

Trump, whose mother was born in Scotland, emphasized the importance of protecting Europe’s cultural and political integrity. He warned that if European nations fail to secure their borders, they risk losing their identity. “If they don’t get their act together, you’re not going to have Europe anymore as you know it,” he said, drawing attention to broader immigration issues across the continent.

Later in the meeting, Trump shifted focus to international security, voicing disappointment in Russian President Vladimir Putin. Referring to the recent Russian escalation in Ukraine, including the launch of over 300 drones and missiles, Trump announced he was cutting short a 50-day deadline he had set for Putin to broker peace. The new timeframe: just 10–12 days.

The revised ultimatum follows Trump’s July 14 meeting with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, during which he initially gave Putin 50 days to act. However, in light of Russia’s latest aggression, including Polish air force deployments in response to the attacks, Trump said he now sees little progress and wants faster action, signaling growing urgency in Western diplomacy.
