CNN data analyst Harry Enten delivered grim news for the Democratic Party during a Monday segment with host Jessica Dean. Citing recent polls from The Wall Street Journal and CNN, Enten revealed that Democrats are experiencing historic lows in net favorable ratings, with records dating back to the early 1990s.
Enten began by highlighting the CNN poll, noting that Democrats were “26 points underwater” in net favorability. He then turned to the Wall Street Journal data, which showed an even worse rating: “minus 30 points, 30 points underwater,” marking the lowest point on record for the party in that survey.
“These polls have records going all the way back since the early 1990s,” Enten explained. “When it comes to the Democratic Party’s net favorable rating in both the Wall Street Journal poll and the CNN poll, the Democratic Party is breaking records in a way, Jessica Dean, you don’t want to break records.”
He also focused on the party’s standing among self-identified independents, a key voting bloc. According to CNN’s SSRS poll, Democrats’ favorable rating among independents stands at just 19 percent. “If I can count it, you know, it’s low and it is extremely low when it comes to independents and the Democratic Party,” Enten said.
He added that independents generally dislike all parties, which makes the upcoming election particularly interesting: “When it comes to independent voters, the bloc, a group that actually decides elections, they hate everybody.”
