Michelle Obama Dismisses Divorce Rumors After Lighthearted Podcast Remark
Former First Lady Michelle Obama recently sparked renewed speculation about her marriage to former President Barack Obama after joking about being single during an episode of her podcast, IMO (In My Opinion). The lighthearted moment occurred in a conversation with her brother Craig Robinson and Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky. “If I’m a single girl out there and I find out that Brian Chesky is single…,” Michelle began, before Robinson interjected with a laugh, defusing the remark as playful banter.
Chesky played along, noting that the Obamas had previously tried to set him up. Michelle chimed in, saying she’s “very invested” in Chesky’s love life. While seemingly innocent, the exchange added fuel to ongoing rumors about tension in the Obamas’ marriage—rumors that have persisted in part due to Michelle’s past absences from notable events such as Donald Trump’s inauguration and former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral.
Adding to the public curiosity, Barack Obama recently acknowledged being in a “deep deficit” with his wife and spoke about planning more meaningful time together. Meanwhile, Michelle has candidly expressed frustrations over her husband’s habits, including his chronic lateness and preference for superficial conversations with his golf buddies. Critics like Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly have cited these comments as evidence of marital strain.
In response to the rumors, Michelle directly addressed the speculation in a separate podcast with entrepreneur Steven Bartlett. Laughing off the idea of a divorce, she said, “If I were having problems with my husband, everybody would know about it.”
Michelle reaffirmed her commitment to Barack, calling him her “person” and emphasizing the strength of their partnership. She noted that both she and Barack have never entertained the idea of giving up on their marriage and encouraged others not to compare themselves to a perceived “perfect” relationship.
