Samuel Mendoza-Torres, a 29-year-old Mexican citizen, faces federal charges after allegedly attempting to bribe a U.S. Border Patrol agent.
On February 8, 2025, Mendoza-Torres was arrested near the Santa Teresa Border Patrol Station for illegally re-entering the U.S. During his arrest, he offered the agent $400 to avoid jail. Mendoza-Torres admitted to helping illegal immigrants enter the U.S. and was aware that bribery was illegal. He remains in jail pending trial and could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted. The case is under investigation by the U.S. Border Patrol and the FBI. This follows several other recent arrests related to immigration violations.
